MARY ALBERTA (BERTIE) EVELYN JENNINGS (nee STEWART) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Alberta (Bertie) Jennings on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Alberta is survived by her loving husband Frank, who shared 42 wonderful years with her. Mom will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Beverley (Bill) Duthoit, Norman (Aida) and her cherished grandchildren, Lindsay and Jessica Duthoit. She will also be sadly missed by her "sister" Dorothy Porteous; her brothers, Gordon (Peggy) and Doug (Bessie) and her brother-in-law Dick (Phyllis) Jennings. Mom will be lovingly remembered by all her special nieces and nephews. Alberta was born on December 13, 1924 in St.James where she resided her entire life. She worked many years at the Royal Alexandra Hotel as an Executive Secretary where she made many lasting friendships. Mom left her employment to raise her family. Some of her favourite times were spent at the family cottage at Jessica Lake. Her happiness was preparing wonderful meals for the family and friends that visited over the years. Alberta shared many special friendships over the years most especially with the girls in her "Gab Club". The recent passing of her dear friend Jean Armstrong was a great loss to her. She was a dedicated member of the St.James Gospel Chapel where she had many friends. Albertas faith allowed her to face many challenges with strength and optimism. All those who knew her appreciated her wonderful sense of humour and forgiving nature. Throughout her illness she was an inspiration to others. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, January 8 at 12:30 p.m. with a gathering of friends and family following in Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family would like to thank Dr. Harris, the outstanding nurses and staff of the Grace Hospital Oncology Department, and VON Shirley Toews who grew to have a special love for Mom. We also thank the staff of Ward 4 South Grace Hospital for their tender care of Mom and Chaplain Gordon Jarvis for his many visits. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Albertas memory to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
