HARVEY RUSSELL MALMGREN It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 82. Harvey is survived by his loving wife Mary of 57 years; daughters, Donna and Carol and husband Wayne Bohn; and grandchildren, Whitney, Hilary and Ethan. Also surviving him are his two brothers, Edward and wife Renee, and Alan and wife Nettie; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother John and two sisters, Margaret and Mabel. Harvey was raised in Elmwood, then continued on to the University of Manitoba where he attained a degree in Electrical Engineering. This fall Harvey was thrilled to attend his 60 year reunion of the graduating class of 1939. During the Second World War, Harvey served as Lieutenant-Commander in the Navy and was stationed in Halifax, Ottawa and Toronto. In 1942, he married Mary Lyons on leave to Winnipeg. After the war, Harvey returned to help his father and brothers start up Malmgren Implement Mfg. on Marion St. and Panet Rd. where they designed and manufactured farm equipment, under the Malco name. He went on to an executive position at Allied Farm Equipment, then later owned and operated T.S. Taylor Machinery with his brother Ed. He enjoyed a long and prosperous career in the Winnipeg business community, and was a member of Winnipeg Executives and of the Association of Professional Engineers. With his three brothers, he was also a long standing member of the Y.M.C.A. Always an active person, Harvey worked eight years after retirement, at the Canadian Wheat Board. Harvey was an avid boater through the years, being a member of the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club, where he and Mary made many friends. His family will never forget the many happy times they shared cruising Lake Winnipeg and Lake of the Woods on the Buccaneer, the Carodon and the Nancy-Gail. Dad will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, supporting and encouraging us always. He was a strong role model, with a work ethic and perseverance that inspired us all. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. in Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Should friends so desire, contributions in Harveys memory may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3H 2H8.
