REVEREND LESLIE ROBERT MARTIN SUMTER Peacefully on January 26, 2000, Reverend Leslie Robert Martin Sumter began his eternal journey with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the Health Sciences Centre. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jaqueline; mother Kathleen Louise Sumter; brother, Walter (Lisa) of Winnipeg; sisters, June (Axel) of Victoria, B.C. and Addena (Irvin) of N.W.T.; daughters, Tara and Tasha of Montreal and Stephanie of Toronto; sons, George, Greg and Danny of Winnipeg; foster children, Ronnie and Maggie; nieces, April, Leslie and Donna; nephews, Douglas, Toby, Clifford, Miles, Ari and Rodger; grandchildren, Malcolm, Jezreel, Michael, Devon, Andrew, Matthew, Tai-ja and Troy. He will be loved and remembered by many friends and relatives. Les was the founder of Prayermobile Mission Childrens Ministries, Les starting serving the children in January 1995. Les grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. In 1955 attended St. Johns Technical School in Winnipeg, 1965-1970 worked for CN as a signal maintainer, 1970-1975 Les worked for Main Street Project as a street worker/counsellor, 1975 he graduated with a B.A. from University of Winnipeg, a Major in English. While attending school he worked at Pathway Homes and Barber House as a Child Care Worker. 1980-1988 he started his employment with Indian and Inuit Affairs and worked as Social Services Administrator, Acting Area Supervisor and went on to word as Head of Treaties and Statutory Requirements. He was well respected in his career. He retired in 1995. For the past 11 years he had been involved in street ministry and establishing Prayermobile Mission Childrens Ministries. He also worked to create a childrens ministry in Ghana, Africa. Les loved his work as a minister for the core area children. It brought him great joy and fulfilment to spread the word of the Lord. He was heartfelt, loving and worked tirelessly and selflessly to fill their needs by building hope and providing love for those less fortunate then himself. He loved his work and his mission children dearly. In Les own words he would say, If we are united with him in death we shall be united with him in the hereafter. Amen Viewing will be held on Sunday, January 30, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Prayers beginning at 5:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. at The Wide World of Faith Church, 465 Alexander Ave., Pastor M.W. Chambers from Bible Church of God and Rev. Wilhelm Jenzen officiating. Interment at Garry Memorial Park. KNYSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 582-0973
