Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL BURTON 1913 - 2000 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and Afi, Paul Burton, on January 29, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Claudia (Walter) Chomichuk, grandchildren, Gregory, Karen, Jacqueline, Diane, Carolyn; daughter Paulette (Dennis) Lapointe, grandson Ryan Paul; brother John; sister Louise Empereur and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Violet; parents Ralph and Rannveig; brother Ralph; sister Emily Hanson. Paul was born March 2, 1913 in Winnipeg and spent his early years in Rockford, Illinois. From the age of 14, he lived with his Uncle Berger and Aunt Paula in Framnes, Manitoba, working on the farm and later spending many years as a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg. Paul served overseas with the RCAF, Moose Squadron #419, as a mid-upper gunner on a Lancaster bomber. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Model. His personal bond with his fellow crew members lasted a lifetime. He married Violet Sigmundson on August 24, 1946. They resided in Hnausa, Manitoba, where they raised their two children, moving to Winnipeg in 1962. Paul was employed by the Winnipeg Post Office for many years, retiring in 1978. Paul was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed his books, music, painting and golf for which he developed a passion at the age of 79. He especially enjoyed the times spent with family at Hillside Beach. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 2 at 3:00 p.m. at the Green Acres Funeral Chapel, TransCanada Highway #1 East and Navin Road. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and the nursing staff of the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6 or a charity of your choice. "Goda Nott, Afi."
