Date of Passing: Jan 28, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryUNA SIGRIDUR SPURWAY (nee JOHNSON) Sigga, aged 91 years, passed away peacefully at Russell Personal Care Home on January 28th, 2000. Predeceased by her husband Jack, she is survived by her children, Margaret McGeough of Phoenix, Arizona, Bruce (Maralyne) of Calgary, Alberta, Lynn (Louise) of Russell, Manitoba; sisters, Sylvia (Bill) Hnetka of Creston BC, Laura Ullyot of Middlechurch, Bub Timlick of Winnipeg; brother Harvey (Audrey) Johnson of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Hugh (Dorrie), Desmond (Carrie), Jean, Barb, Duncan, Beth (Doug), Tim (Nathalie), Dan, Ross, Diane; great-granddaughters, Greer and Sydney, and many nieces and nephews. Sigga was born in Winnipeg on November 13th, 1908 into a large and loving family, and spent her early years in Winnipeg and Amaranth. In 1936, she married Jack from Strathclair. Together they farmed south of Dauphin in the Burrows District at the foot of Riding Mountain. Sigga has touched many lives in her loving and gentle ways. Her pride in her Icelandic heritage was always evident, and that, and her great sense of humour, carried her through many hard times with dignity. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her greatest joys were touring with her sisters, family, and hand crafted pottery; winning many prizes and "Top of the Show" for her delicate, life-like flowers. Lasting friendships were made through this common love of clay. A memorial service will be held in Dauphin at Riverside Evergreen Chapel, Riverside Road on Tuesday, February 1st at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Siggas memory to a charity of your choice. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services.
