Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH ALICE (BESSIE) ROBERTS With quiet grace and dignity, the way she lived her life, our beloved cousin and cherished friend passed from us at the Grace General Hospital on Friday, January 28, with her loving family at her side. Elizabeth (Bessie) was born in Winnipeg July 12, 1912 and at the age of three was stricken with polio. Being severely restricted by the effects, she managed through sheer will and determination to become a nurse to her bedridden mother for over 20 years, an artist and a well-known piano teacher in her home on Warsaw Avenue in Fort Rouge. She was a life member of the Winnipeg Sketch Club and for eight years she volunteered as an artist at the Dugald Costume Museum, sketching many of the artifacts that were donated to the museum. She was a member of St. Lukes Anglican Church all of her life and until her stroke two years ago, attended faithfully. Bessie has been a resident at Deer Lodge Centre for two years and will be sadly missed because of her supportive and caring attitude for her many friends there. She was a ray of sunshine. The family wishes to thank each and every care giver both at the Grace Hospital and the Deer Lodge Centre, Dr. Murray and staff, and Dr. El-Tair. We couldnt have managed without your loving care. Our thanks also for the spiritual care provided again so lovingly by Rev. Aubrey Hemminger and Canon Barbara Barnett at Deer Lodge, and chaplain Donna Davis at Grace Hospital. She is survived by her loving cousin and faithful companion Priscilla MacLennan; cousins, Ray and Bevy, Ken and Renie, Keith and Nancy, Scott and Sandra, Colleen, Gillian, Robbie, Katie and Christie MacLennan, cousin Edith Barker and family in Toronto, Alf and Rita Berry and family, Barb Berry and family, Helen Isherwood and family, Marguerite and James Murray and family (Melinda, James and wee Logan in Vancouver), Archie Isherwood and family in Victoria, Glenn Roberts and family in Prince Edward Island and Georgia Roberts in New Brunswick; Ted and Margaret Taylor and family, Gerry and Joyce Taylor and family in Denver; very dear friends Gertrude and Ted Bell and family, Mrs. Anne Peeling, Mrs. Margaret McClure, Mrs. Margaret Munro, Judy and Grant Rowan, all in Winnipeg and Shirley and Arnold Buchanan of Ottawa; many relatives and friends in Scotland and across Canada. All of these people know how precious Bessie was to them and she will be forever in their hearts. We are all better for having had Bessie in our lives. Bessie was predeceased by her only sister Catherine, her mother Priscilla and her father Duncan. Your smile, your grace, your precious face A daughter, sister, cousin, a sweet and caring friend for life. Although your touch may not be felt. Your spirit glows a warm embrace. There will be a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2 in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 660 Broadway, with Padre Stanley Millar officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her cousins, Alfred Berry, Ray, Ken, Keith and Scott MacLennan and dear friend Ted Bell.
