ABE BERKAL Abe Berkal, husband of Hilda, father of Arky Berkal and Harold (Gerry) Berkal, grandfather of Steven (Leslye), David (Kim) and Susan Berkal, great-grandfather of Rachel, Jacob, Taryn, Emma and Megan Berkal, brother of Rabbi Louis (Sara) Berkal and brother-in-law of Clara Berkal, passed away on Monday morning, January 31, 2000 at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his siblings, Sam Berkal, Doris Margolis, Morris Berkle and Bella Aron. He was the uncle of Shirley (Dave) Permack, Neil (Elaine) Margolis, Liba (Tommy) Stillman, Meryle (Errol) Lewis, Rhoda (Mickey) Kraut, Allen (Sandy) Berkal, Bev (Morley) Jacobs, Shelly (Honey) Berkle, Benzy (Shirley Labman) Berkal, Harvey (Judy) Berkal, Karen (John) McNally, Harriet (Larry Sarbit) Berkal and many great-nephews and nieces. Rabbi Altein and Rabbi Green officiated at the funeral service, at the Chesed Shel Emes on Tuesday, February 1, 2000 with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. The family is observing a private shiva. Contributions may be made to the Abe and Hilda Berkal Fund of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba - Ph. 477-7520. Thanks to Bev Rayburn and Mickey Kraut for their timely and dedicated support. The entire Berkal family wishes to extend its deepest heartfelt gratitude to Paul, Norma, Kim, Kathy, Lorna, Wynne, Edith, Helen, Dale and the rest of the 5th floor staff of Seven Oaks Hospital. Additional thanks to Dr. Norman Hechtenthall and the rest of the medical staff during Abe Berkals extended illness.
