MARIE R.J. CANTIN On Thursday, February 3, 2000, Marie Cantin passed away at the McCreary-Alonsa Personal Care Home at the age of 84 years. Marie leaves to mourn her passing her brother Noel (Bernice) and sister-in-law Edith of McCreary, Albert (Madge) of Winnipeg, Clement Nivon of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie attended school at McCreary and the Convent in Ste. Rose prior to completing her Nurses Training at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg in 1935. She was the Regional Health Nurse at Alonsa before joining the army in 1939. Marie served overseas as head operating room nurse achieving the rank of Captain. She landed in Normandy shortly after D-Day and worked in field hospitals through France, Belgium, Holland and on to Germany. After the war she remained in the army as Head Nurse at Fort Osborne Hospital in Winnipeg until retirement. Prayers will be offered on Monday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Nativity Roman Catholic Church, McCreary. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ray Omictin officiating with interment following at the McCreary Catholic cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McCreary-Alonsa Personal Care Home, or a charity of your choice. Dobchuk Funeral Home, McCreary in care of arrangements.
