AGNES B. CHRISTENSEN (nee STEWART) On February 3, 2000 in Deer Lodge Centre, Agnes Christensen left us to join her beloved husband Roy. Predeceased by Roy in 1950; her mother Louisa in 1947 and her sister Louisa in 1910 and by a grandson Glenn Stratford; she leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Shirley (Jack) Stratford, Donna (Ted) Allden and Marlene (Lou) Small and by her grandchildren, John (Elaine) Stratford, Nancy (Robin) Blues, Lori (Rollie) Robertson, Robert Stratford, Susan (Gerry) Rocan, Douglas (Michele) Allden, Steve (Linda) Allden, Janet (Robin) Graham and Jim (Bernice) Small, as well as by 13 great-grandchildren. Born in England on June 19, 1905, Agnes emigrated at age one with her parents to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. To support herself and her daughters after Roys death, she was hired by the T. Eaton Co. (where she had worked prior to marriage in 1930) and was a loyal employee of the mail order until retirement in 1969. She was also a faithful and long-time member of St. Matthews Anglican Church. Agnes made many friends over the years and was respected and loved by everyone who came to know her. Agnes was devoted to her daughters and their families, as they all were to her, and she was happiest on the many occasions when they congregated for her great home-cooked meals. She doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took special pleasure in her outdoor garden in summer and her large collection of indoor plants in the cold months. After joining a Seniors group at Lions Manor, she developed a talent for pottery and ceramics, a hobby she was thoroughly enjoying until being hospitalized as a result of her fall in October 1999. Honouring her wishes, Agnes body has been contributed to the University of Manitoba for the advancement of medicine through anatomical study and there will be no formal memorial service. Family members and friends are urged to take a few private moments at noon on Thursday, February 10, one week after her passing, to reflect on Agnes life and the impact of her association with them. The daughters sincerely appreciated the caring and compassionate concern shown for their mum by the staff at Deer Lodge Centre where she was sent for rehabilitation following stay at Grace Hospital. In Agnes memory, in lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to the Anatomical Research Fund at the University of Manitoba, to the Deer Lodge Foundation, to St. Matthews Anglican Church or to any charity of their choice.
