FREDDERICK BABIAK Peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2000, at St. Boniface Hospital, Fred Babiak passed away at the age of 76 years. Fred was born in Poland in 1923. He came to Canada in August, 1932 with his family. He attended McIvor School in North Kildonan until he joined the Armed Forces Services in 1943. Fred went overseas in 1944 and returned in 1945. He was honourably discharged in 1945 after which he married his first wife. In 1946, giving birth to a premature son, she passed away. Fred remarried in November, 1950. In 1947, he began in the construction business building homes and in 1948 he started his own company, Lakeview Construction Ltd. and worked until 1968 when he went into farming with his sons in Fraserwood, Man. In 1981, Fred suffered a heart attack and retired, which resulted in his turning over the farms to his sons. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Maria; three brothers, Alex, Pete and Harry; his two sons, Harold (October, 1995) and Frank (November, 1999). He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Stanley, Walter (Emily), Fred (Gloria) and Wayne; four daughters, Marion, Annette, Shirley (Richard) and Verna (Frank), as well as 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Dora, Sophie and Annie. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, (tonight), February 8, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 10:00 a.m. also at Cropo Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Donations in Freds memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6, or the Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave. Rest in Peace, Dad, we will all miss you.
