MARGARET ROWENA THORNTON (nee HYNDMAN) Peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2000 at the Betel Home in Gimli, Rowena Thornton passed away at the age of 94 years. Rowena was born at Morris, Man. on March 18, 1905, was raised and attended school at Myrtle, Man., and had lived and farmed at Camp Morton, Man. for most of her life. She had been a resident of the Betel Home for the past 6 years. Rowena was predeceased by her husband, Allan Thornton in 1973, also two brothers, Harvey and John Hyndman (Beatrice) and a niece Sharon Skanderbeg. She is survived by a sister, Ruby Simpson of Neepawa, nephews, Bill Hyndman (Marlene) of Winnipeg and Bob Hyndman (Lillian) of Calgary and nieces Myrtle Kardash (George) of Brandon, Leita Boivin (George) of Winnipeg, Trudy Haines (Jack) of Calgary and Neville Skanderbeg of Waldersee. Also left surviving are two stepdaughters, Alice and Betty and their families as well as many great nieces and great nephews. A special thank you from the family to Rowenas devoted friends, Mary and Howard Farrell for their friendship to Rowena over the years and for all their help and caring. Rowena will be remembered by all the family for her great love of cats and kittens. She loved to knit and crochet and made dozens of pairs of mittens for nieces and nephews over the years. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Gimli with Padre Ray Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Gimli Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart Fund, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
