DONNA CHIMILAR (nee GALAY) Suddenly on Monday, February 7, 2000 Donna Alexis, beloved wife of Murray, passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Besides her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Carrie and Derek; her mother Helen Galay of Dauphin; sister Eileen Roberts (Scott) of Saskatoon, and brother Taras (Donna) Morinville, Alberta. Donna is also survived by her in-laws; Doris and Walter Chimilar; brothers-in-law, Warren (Vivian) and Larry (Lorene) and sister-in-law, Brenda (Jim) as well as her nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and good friends, Diane and Barb. She was predeceased by her father, Alex. Donna was born in 1954 in Flin Flon, Manitoba. She received her early education there before moving to Garrick, Saskatchewan where her parents owned and operated the Garrick Hotel. She continued her secondary schooling in Choiceland, graduating with honors. In the early 1970s Donna came to Winnipeg to study data processing at the Herzing Institute. Shortly thereafter she met Murray whom she married April 30, 1977. They have resided in Transcona with their children for many years. For the last 12 years, Donna worked for Revenue Canada on Stapon Road where she made many friends. At home she took great pride in her family. She was a great cook. In her leisure time she enjoyed attending her childrens sporting events, Countryfest, playing bingo and games of Scrabble with Diane, going for walks with Pokey and sharing in family gatherings. She will be deeply missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the emergency and ICU staff at Concordia as well as to the paramedics who attended to Donna. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one half hour prior to, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., (Across from the Royal Canadian Mint). The Reverend Bruce Faurschou officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Interment Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In keeping with Donnas tradition of helping others, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory to the charity of their choice.
