Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON WESLEY MURRAY Suddenly on February 6, 2000, Gordon passed into the loving arms of the Lord at the Neepawa and District Memorial Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Grace; son Keith (Grace) of Wawanesa, grandchildren, Kayle, Elin and Mariel; son Paul (Alison) of Harbour City, CA; daughter Kristin of Brandon, grandchildren, Peter and Phillip. Gordon is also survived by his nephew Ray (Bev) Murray of Onanole, nieces, Bev Murray of Swan River and Carolyn Igo of Thunder Bay. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ken and Stan. Gordon especially appreciated the friendship of his two brothers-in-law, Con Sigurdson and George Leslie. Gordon was born in the family farmhouse at Willowgrove (Minnedosa) on March 24, 1920 to Kenneth and Dorothy Murray. His formative years were spent in the area where he attended a one-room country school. Gordon and Grace were married in a tiny country Lutheran church at Husavik, MB on July 17, 1954. He married into the Icelandic culture, which he grew to love as much as his own. He was an adherent of the Neepawa Baptist Church for over 27 years. In his earlier years, he enjoyed his work as a fireman for the C.P.R. He ended his working career as Town Superintendent of the Town of Neepawa. Gordons motto to live by was that actions speak louder than words. He really appreciated the oft quoted expression, "what you are doing speaks so loudly that I cant hear what you are saying." During his retirement Gordon and his family derived much satisfaction in building a family cottage at Sandy Hook. One of the highlights of his retirement years (at age 77!) was a Caribbean Cruise with the Ste. Rose High School Travel Club and his brother Ken (87 years!). Gordon enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests ranging from old time music, The Purple Martin Club, gardening and woodworking. He was always eager to share his woodworking knowledge and projects with family and friends. He was uncle Gordon to many Chinese exchange students who were keenly interested in learning from him about this hobby. Gordon made regular visits to the Neepawa Drop-in Centre, where many games of pool, shuffleboard and cards were played with a large circle of friends. He took pleasure in helping others and in tackling a challenge on his own. He sought stimulation by learning new things and was never afraid to ask questions. Gordon loved animals and took many furry companions into his heart and home. Gordon took great pride in his family and treated us with unconditional love, generosity and devotion. Afi was a very special person to all of his grandchildren and took an active interest in them. We will miss him profoundly and anticipate being reunited for eternity as the Lord has promised. Gordon will always be remembered by his family and friends for his great sense of humour and as a compassionate individual who lived life to the fullest. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance at Aubrey St., Winnipeg. Pastors Herb Cassells and Earl Wanamaker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordons memory to the Gideon Bible Society or the Neepawa and District Memorial Hospital.
