MARY BERTINE BURTON On Tuesday, February 8, 2000, at the Lions Prairie Manor, Aunt Mary left us peacefully at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by all in her immediate family; her father Francis Burton in 1934 and her mother Eugenie in 1973; her brother Lloyd, killed in action in 1944; her sister Elsie (Wally) Pottruff in 1984; her sister Edith (Edward) Stephens in 1985; her sister Winifred (Richard) Morton in 1988; her brother Webster (Bea) Burton in 1990; her brother Haig (Betty) in 1992 and a nephew Richard Burton in 1978. Left to mourn her passing are her niece Joan Deschamps of Moncton, N.B. and nephews, Edward Stephens of Prince Albert, Sask., Ricardo Stephens of Coquitlam, B.C., Charles Morton of Winnipeg, Man., Gordon Pottruff of Courtenay, B.C and Lloyd Burton of Orlando, FL; her sisters-in-law, Beatrice Burton of Portage la Prairie, Man. and Betty Burton of Kelowna, B.C., as well as many great-nieces and nephews. She lived her entire life in Portage ending a 47 career with the Portage Mutual in 1977. She was an active member of St. Marys Anglican Church and a charter member of the Business and Professional Womens Association of Portage. She was devoted to her church, her family and her many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, at 10:00 a.m. from St. Marys Anglican Church with The Rev. Norman Collier officiating. Interment is to follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Portage la Prairie, Man. The family would like to thank the staff at Lions Prairie Manor for their care and love given to Aunt Mary over the past several years. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, contributions may be made in remembrance of Mary to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6. A tree will be planted in memory of Mary at Evergreen Memorial Gardens by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements.
