DOROTHY DIACZUN (nee STECH) Suddenly on February 9, 2000 Dorothy (nee Stech) Diaczun passed away at the age of 70 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Harry; sisters, Stella and Anne; brothers, Bill and Stanley and nephew Glen. Left to mourn is her loving devoted husband Walter; her three daughters, Karen, Beverly (Donald Burton) and Pamela (Kevin Garski) granddaughters, Dannielle and Nicole Burton; brother Ernie (Charlotte) sister Olga and many nephews, nieces and friends. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg into a Ukrainian family. She grew up the youngest of six children in East Kildonan. In 1951 Princess met and wed Wally. They spent most of their lives in East St. Paul raising their daughters, market gardening and cooking. Dorothy was very active in the community. She was a get things done now kind of person. For many years she served on the executive of the Ladies Auxiliary for Legion Branch #215, the last several in the capacity of President. She worked hard to organize carnivals, buffalo barbecues, fireworks displays and yet still found time to make mounds of coleslaw for the catering functions. At home, summers were spent growing a bounty of vegetables for the winter months to fill her table with all the traditional and family favourites. There was always room for another at Dorothys home whether it was a place to stay or eat. Family and friends were important to Dorothy and they have sadly missed her family Christmas eve gathering over the past few years. Dorothy was a talented knitter and her whole family proudly wore her many creations. The birth of her granddaughters added to her joy in creating even more knitting projects. Dorothy loved to travel and meet new people. Many of her trips included travelling with her childhood friends, who she kept close bonds with. She particularly enjoyed Hawaii, Mexico and Vegas but it was her short jaunts to the casinos giving her the most pleasure in her later years. Whether as a wife, mother or friend she was loved by all that knew her. The family would like to give special thanks to the attending paramedics as well as the staff of Concordia Emergency Department. Services honouring the life of Dorothy will be held in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronald McCullough officiating. Interment Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
