JAKE NIMCHONOK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jake Nimchonok, with his family at his side, on February 5, 2000, at the age of 87. Jake was predeceased by his loving wife Sonia in 1990; his brother Louis and brothers-in-law, Ben Rosenhek and Charles Spector. He is survived by his children, Harold (Barbara), Meyer (Shelley) and Ruthie (Phil) Rubin; grandchildren, Lenore, Fred, Rita, Sam (Larissa), Kevin, Shauna (Aaron) Lindzon, Marni, Lainey, Robert and Nancy (Tim) great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordynn and Allie; sisters, Pearl Rosenhek and Freda Spector and special friend Esther Dreman. Jake was born in Winnipeg, married Sonia Warner in 1937 and moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1941. There he established a business and was respected by all for his honesty and integrity. In 1965 he returned to Winnipeg where he worked until retirement. In their 52 years of marriage, he and Sonia worked side by side and were a great support to each other. His life revolved around his family and he took great pride and pleasure in all of their accomplishments. He was a courageous, gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. The family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Errol Billinkoff, Pat Hill and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Units, who treated him with great care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Keevin Bernstein who oversaw his care for the last four years, and to Dr. R. Stimpson and Dr. L. Oppenheimer and their staff for their exceptional care during his stay in SICU at the Health Sciences Centre. Funeral services were held on February 7 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Rabbi Louis Berkal officiated. The eulogy was delivered by his granddaughter Shauna Lindzon. Pallbearers were Aaron Lindzon, Kevin Nimchonok, Eric Rosenhek, Phil Rubin, Arnold Silver, Bob Spector. Honorary pallbearer was Sam Nimchonok. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 200-55 Donald St., or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
