BJORN FREEMAN ASMUNDSON I am not dead. I merely move to other realms. I live in you and wander through your dreams. Bjorn Freeman (Fred) Asmundson passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 10, 2000. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life are his devoted wife, Clara Margaret (Lawson) his daughter Pat (and Barrie) Bergstrom of Bradenton, Florida and their children Brett (Kathy), Dean (Reyna) and Tracy (Kurt) his son Freeman Duke (and Deanne) of Winnipeg and their children, Garnet (Karen), Darin, Colin and Kristen; grandchildren, Garth and Marnie, children of his late son Lloyd and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Emma (Albert) Thorvalson and Jonina (Phil) Desjardins, both of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews to whom he was a favourite uncle. Freeman was predeceased by his parents Jon and Lillian; by his sons, Gary and Lloyd; by his brothers, Steini and Carl (Anne) by his sisters, Margaret (Larus) Bjornson, Anna (Bill) Stasiuk, Aldis (Bill) Barry, Winnie (George) Eliuk and Villa (Wilmer) Olson and by Claras three brothers, Jack, Frank and Lloyd Lawson. Freeman was born in Pembina, North Dakota, April 10, 1915, eventually moving north and settling in Winnipeg. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War and was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion #9. He was a member of the Masons, and then the Shriners (Oriental Band). Freeman was a long time employee of Carling-OKeefe until retirement. Since then, he has enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, reading and gardening, and quiet times at home with Clara. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Pastor Dean Anderson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8 or to a charity of ones choice.
