FRED PISMENNY Fred Pismenny, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, slipped quietly from us on February 11, 2000, at the age of 89 years. Lovingly remembered by many people for his kind heart, generous nature and gentle humour; his memory will be especially cherished by his wife of 61 years, Anne; son Peter (Cokky) Pismenny; daughters, Judy (Mark) Worbeck and Shirley (Brian) Smith; grandchildren, Anuschka, Lisa, Kim, Clayton, Simcoe and Keely. Fred was predeceased by his parents Paul and Palahia Pismenny; brother Phillip; sister Antonia Zoltenko and nephews, Fred Zoltenko and Dan Pismenny. He was born June 1, 1910 in Krastnostavka, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1924 with his family. He married Anne in 1938 and shortly after moved to the home in which they resided for 51 years. Their home was filled with many memorable moments of family gatherings, celebrations and lively evenings of card and cribbage games. Fred was involved in the founding of St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church and was an active member of the church Brotherhood for many years. He was employed with Canada Packers Produce Division for 32 years and upon retiring, pursued his favourite pastimes of gardening, berry picking, caring for his grandchildren and travelling. Fred and Anne travelled to many countries but particularly enjoyed their visits with their son in Amsterdam. Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., with Rev. Fr. John Sianchuk, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Oscar Domke, nurses and staff of Middlechurch Home D2 for their compassionate care. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Freds memory may be made to the Middlechurch Personal Care Home. "Mary and Roman Bylo, your cribbage partner is on his way." Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
