Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER MAKAR On February 16, 2000 Peter Makar passed away at the age of 89 at the Grace Hospital. Peter was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Marie, on April 12, 1988. His parents and brother Bill of Glendon Alberta and sister Olga of the Ukraine. Left to mourn his loss are his sons, Dick Makar (Betty), Ted Makar, granddaughter Kelly Makar, who was the light of his life, step-grandchildren, Carmeron Henderson (Susan), Shelly Henderson (James), great-grandchildren Brook and Harrison Smith and Nicholas Henderson. Brothers, Steve Makar (Ann) of Winnipeg, Harry (Anne) and sister-in-law Anne, of Glendon Alberta, also numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was born on February 27, 1911 in Chibalta, Poland (Ukraine). He immigrated to Canada arriving on May 2, 1929. Peter was a very hard worker, supporting himself upon arrival in Canada by working for the Federal Government, building highway number one east. Next he worked in the gold mine in Red Lake from 1939- 1952. Here he married Marie Bilyk of Pine River, Manitoba and fathered his first son, Dick. In 1952 the family moved to Winnipeg where he worked at CNR Transcona shops at various positions from car-man to carpenter until his retirement in 1976. His second son Ted, was born in Winnipeg in 1953. Peter and Marie raised their family in the West End. He moved to Oakview Place in 1997, where he lived until his passing. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakview Place for all the care their dad/grandpa received over the past few years and their thanks to Kim and Louise at Grace Hospital for the T.L.C. with Dad at the end. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday February 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with visitation one half hour prior to the service. A gathering of friends and family will follow in the Chapel. A heart of gold stopped beating, Working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither, The gold sun may set, But, the hearts that loved you dearly, Are the ones that wont forget.
