RENE KERNS Leaving our hearts with the fondest of memories, the family of Rene Kerns announces her sudden passing, on February 18, 2000. Born in Clarkleigh, Man. on November 6, 1916, Rene spent most of her life in Winnipeg. She married Harry Alexander Kerns in 1941 and was predeceased by him, after celebrating 50 years of marriage, in 1991. Also predeceased by her brothers, Leslie and Claude Greenham, she is survived by her sister Doris Bennett and leaves her children, Sandy (Donna) Kerns, Val (Rand) Parker and Marnie (Ron) Zdriluk to honour and celebrate her memory. She also leaves her much loved grandchildren, Shane (Pat) Mackenzie, Eryn Mackenzie, Libby Zdriluk, David and Danny Kerns and great-grandchildren, Alysha and Alex Mackenzie. There are also many favourite nieces and nephews who will miss her warm ways and infectious laugh. The most giving of women, Rene was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She embraced her role as a grandmother with love and enthusiasm, generously giving to her grandchildren those most precious of commodities, herself and her time (and her cookies). There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending "one on one" time with even the youngest of them and getting to know them for the special people they are. Possessing great energy, she made her home and cottage at Bird Lake the most welcoming and comfortable of places and still found time to belong to the Isaac Brock Bowling League for over 30 years, play bridge with the Kilola Club and be the bazaar convenor for Westworth Church for many years. Although gardening and flowers brought her great joy, she would have also liked her friends and family to remember her by donating to the Manitoba Cerebral Palsy Sports Association, 200 Main St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 4M2. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., Winnipeg. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
