CHIYOKO SAKAI Peacefully, on Monday, February 21, 2000, at Oakview Place, Mrs. Chiyoko Sakai passed away. She was born May 28, 1918 in , B.C. Chiyoko is survived by daughters, Sue (Roy) Mizuno and Ei Yasumatsu; grandchildren, Gary, Valerie (Todd), Sharon, Marni and Derek and great-grandchildren, Haley and Shea; brothers, George (Mabel), Tom (Sue), Richard (Ruby), Will (Fudge), Moe (Mildred) and many nieces and nephews. Chiyoko was predeceased by her husband Kiyoshi; sons, Kiyo and Jackie and brother Joe. Despite her great personal tragedy and losses, she was able to remain a loving, caring mother and friend. She had a wonderful spirit and genuine concern for others. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren, whose lives she followed with great pride and enthusiasm. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking for her family and friends. She had a love for travelling, shopping and playing cards with her friends. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave. with Rev. Ulrich officiating. Thank you to her special friends for their regular visits to the nursing home. We are forever grateful to Auntie Sue for her continuous care and support of our mother. Thank you to the staff of Extendicare, Oakview Place for their kindness and care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3B 2H8.
