Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGENEVIEVE (GENYA) JEAN CIWKO (nee WITROWICH) On February 19, 2000 at Victoria General Hospital, Jean Ciwko passed away at the age of 77 years. Jean spent all of her life in Winnipeg. She was born on April 13, 1922, the second of three daughters to Ukrainian immigrants. She was proud to be a Ukrainian-Canadian. Jean held many jobs over the course of her life, but chose to define herself as daughter, sister, wife, mother, baba and great-grandmother. She had a tremendous amount of pride in her family and showered them constantly with love and affection. Jean will be remembered most for her generosity, openness and caring. Jean loved people and was renowned for her sociable nature. She was a member of Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church all of her life and was an active member of the U.C.W.L.C. womens league for more than 30 years. Jean was a woman of many talents and especially enjoyed dancing, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking and cleaning. Jean was always willing to learn and ready to adapt to change. By age 22 she had been married, widowed and became a mother all in the space of one year. After nine years as a single parent, she found love again and remarried. Her second marriage made her a stepmother to three teenagers. The family grew with two daughters who brought her much joy. In raising teenagers through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Jean was able to keep up with the times. Her ability to stay current carried on throughout the 80s and 90s with her grandchildren. Even with all of the challenges she faced over the last two years, she continued to demonstrate her courage and strength. Jean will be forever cherished and remembered by her two daughters, Ann Marie (Ciwko) McDowell, Valdine Ciwko, son Jim Stevenson; sisters, Nettie Derkach, Mary Gatz and all their families. Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24 at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Always in our hearts. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
