FR. GERALD DESROCHES O.F.M. On February 20, 2000, Sister Death called our brother, Friar Gerald Desroches, O.F.M. to eternal life. Gerald was born in Penetanguishene, ON on July 9, 1909, the youngest of a large family, all of whom predeceased him. Nieces, nephews and cousins live in Quebec, ON and Saskatchewan. Fr. Gerald joined the Franciscan Order in Sherbrooke, QC in 1933 and was ordained a priest on June 7, 1941. He served the Church generously and with great charity in Quebec and in Western Canada for nearly 60 years. He was much loved for his work in the Lords vineyard. Reception of the body at St. Francis Friary Chapel, 211 Edmonton St., at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23 followed by Evening Prayer for the Dead. Vigil prayers at 7:30 p.m. at the Friary Chapel. Funeral mass on Thursday, February 24, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Cathedral. The celebrant will be The Very Rev. Donald H. MacDonald, O.F.M. Burial to take place in the Franciscan Friars Cemetery, Cochrane, AB, at a later date. The Friars wish to thank all the doctors and the health care givers at Health Sciences Centre, as well as his many friends for their prayers and their care during his last days.
