PETER NICHOLAS SHEA
Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER NICHOLAS SHEA On Sunday, February 20, 2000, faithful and loving husband of Margaret (nee Ferguson) for over 48 years, beloved father of Janetta (King) of Winnipeg and Philip of Toronto, grandpa to Elisabeth, Charles and Katharine King, caring brother of Vi Szadorski and Mike Shea, predeceased by his other brothers and sisters, Stan, Anne, Tony and Jesse. Peter was born in 1918 in Winnipeg and was raised in the North End by his parents Nicholas and Mary Szadorski. He attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools; he had fond memories of his teachers and classmates at Daniel Mac. During the Depression, he left aside his dreams of university to help his family and began working as a Railway Mail Clerk for the CNR, later for Canada Post. He worked over 37 years before retiring due to illness, only to work another 11 years for Blue Cross before finally retiring to Calgary at age 70. Here he enjoyed gardening and woodworking until his health and eyesight declined. He and Margaret moved to northwest Calgary where they resided until his death. Peter was known for his positive, optimistic attitude. His cup was never half empty, always half full. He had a kind word, a silly joke and a listening ear for everyone. He was a very gentle man with a deep inner strength. Children were drawn to him because of his gentle manner. He enjoyed relating stories of bygone days and had a gift for making the stories vivid. He always put family first. He taught what love and self-sacrifice meant by his lifelong example. No husband or father cared more or prayed more. God blessed many of us by knowing him. He will be dearly missed but not forgotten. Rest in Peace, Dearest Father.
