LAURA HELGA ULLYOT (nee JOHNSON) On February 23, 2000 in her 90th year, Laura passed from this life with her children holding her hands at The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dr. Leslie Ullyot, Susanne (Ken) Matchett and Marcia Ullyot of Saskatoon. She was amma to grandchildren, Sarah (Derek) Cummings, Michael (fiancee Farah) of Toronto and Jon of Montreal; and nanny to grandchildren, Lori (Dennis) Sierhuis, Kathy (Matt) Johnson of Dryden, Kimberley Matchett, Sherri (Darrell Stubbington) of Victoria, Christine (Chris) Davidson and Susanne Eliuk of Saskatoon. She was great-nanny to Conner and Chloe Davidson and Ariana Laura Linae Eliuk (born February 21, 2000) and Riley Sierhuis. Laura will also be remembered by her loving sisters, Bubbles Timlick and Sylvia Hnetka (Bill) of Creston and brother Harvey (Audrey) Johnson; her nieces and nephews, Joanne Wiedenbacher, Joan Belanger, Dawn Clark, Lynn Spurway, Margaret McGeough, Bruce Spurway, Fred Johnson, Jane Todd, Penny Light, Marlene Ethier, Diane Vaz, Ron Dixon, Sharon Smale, Malcolm Timlick, Karen LeMaistre, Darryl Johnson, Cindy Green, Jim Johnson, Lorie Wermie, John Allen, Kim Wright and Mark Hnetka. Laura was predeceased by her loving husband Roy in 1966; her parents, Eggert and Gudfinna Johnson; brothers, Oli, Fred, Marvin, and sisters, Lillian Dixon, Thorun Barrieau, Fjola McColl, Emily Bjarnason and Sigga Spurway and great-grandson Keegan Davidson. Laura was born and raised in Winnipeg. She worked at Eatons, South Seas Restaurant, St. Regis Hotel and the Family Bureau of Greater Winnipeg. She was active in her childrens activities all her life, volunteering at Clifton School, Clifton Community Club and Sargent Park School. Her spiritual life was very important to her and she was active all her life in the First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed time at Matlock Beach, trips to Iceland with her sisters, a bus tour in Europe, trips to the Bahamas and Hawaii with friends, and precious family time in Saskatoon, Twin Lakes Beach and Pistol Lake. Laura was proud of her unified Icelandic family and her life revolved around their activities. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her love of life and her ability to find the good in everyone she met. She was truly a sweetheart, winning the hearts of everyone around her. She enjoyed her weekly trips to the hairdresser followed by lunch with Susie, friend Jean Matchett and others who knew where to find her, especially on Wednesdays. Memories of her include her wonderful wit, sense of humour and vibrant smile. Laura resided at 170 Hendon for 23 years. During this last year, she spent time in the Grace Hospital, Deer Lodge Centre and enjoyed her last few months in The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Her family would like to thank everyone she came in touch with during her illness this past year and especially to her special friends at Middlechurch during her brief stay, including residents, staff and volunteers. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of her life will be held at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St. at Sargent Ave. on Friday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who so desire, memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. Well love you forever, well like you for always, Now and forever, our Mother youll be.
