ALPHONSE JOSEPH MAURICE CYPRIEN GABORIEAU After a long and courageous battle with a brain tumour, Alphonse Gaborieau, age 56 years, passed away on February 24, 2000 at the Selkirk General Hospital with his family, whom he cherished so much, at his side. Alphonse is survived by his beloved wife Dianne; son Chad and daughter Regan (Darren). He is also survived by his parents, Honore and Cecile; his siblings, Albert, Marcel (Joanne), Angele (Nick) and Muriel (Daniel) his wifes family, Mary and Ted Richards, Lori (John) and Linda; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Alphonse was born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB and grew up in Atikokan, ON. He worked and played fastball for several years in Red Lake before moving to Selkirk to enter psychiatric nursing. He later completed his registered nursing and obtained his Bachelors Degree at Brandon University. His professional work with Childrens Mental Health was of great significance to him. He worked several years as Program Co-ordinator of Child Psychiatry at the Childrens Hospital and later in Community Mental Health for Children. He was an avid fastball player and his greatest joy was supporting his children in their sports; Chad in hockey and Regan in precision skating. Among the things he valued were his friends and numerous acquaintances he made during his life. Once a friend always a friend. Alphonse was a longtime member of the Selkirk Council No. 6150 Knights of Columbus. He was an active volunteer with many community groups such as the Festival on the Red and Habitat for Humanity. Prayers will be said on Sunday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. B. Bedi and the wonderful staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Selkirk General Hospital. Also to Lori Dunn, Ed Williamson, and the Robert and Audrey Wasnie family for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Alphonses memory to the Palliative Care Unit at the Selkirk General Hospital, Box 5000, Selkirk, R1A 2M2 or Notre Dame Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk.
