GERALD KRANING Peacefully on February 23, 2000, Gerald Kraning, surrounded by his family passed away. He is survived by his loving wife Janice; daughters Leslie (Larry) Asmus, Heather (Ken) Blackmore, Jennifer (Leon) Bardarson. Also by nieces Susan Izzard, Debbie Fifield, Cheryl Carlson and families. He was predeceased by his father Jack, mother Helen Kraning and sister Florence Carlson. Gerald began his career in construction, eventually moving to the Province of Manitoba Highways Department. He retired as maintenance superintendent from the Interlake Region, centrally located in Arborg. He worked for the Government for 28 years. He and Janice retired to their cabin in Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell. This was home to Gerry and he was always on the lookout for that Master Sturgeon. His favourite pastime was out on the boat, fishing with his daughters and sons-in-law. When the lake froze over and snow would come, it was time to pull out the Polaris. The family would like to thank the Nutimik Bunch who made it possible for us to enjoy the last few years at the cabin, and the many friends and relatives who have been so supportive. Our sincere thanks to Medex, Winnipeg Air Ambulance, The National Air Ambulance, Health Sciences Centre, and all else involved. As I lay here and I think of you, the man you used to be I wonder how it feels for you, its such a mystery. I remember as a little girl, the games we used to play The pride you took in all your girls, words could never say. You never had a boy, a part of every mans dream Three red headed little girls instead, no less for you it seemed. From Sunday morning wrestling shows, to crusher crews and firemens clothes, You let us share a part of you, a part that was so real and true. How is it that a man so strong, has a disease called ALS How can it dig its claws into your strength and make you something less. Dont we have a say in this, cant we make it stop It feels so out of our control, it seems were at a loss. A man who once was stubborn and sometimes very stern Has become the gentle giant, so loving and concerned. So when the road ahead gets rough, and I feel I may forget Ill look into your eyes, those gorgeous ocean blues, And see the man that you once were, a man with so much pride, Its all right there, one little peak inside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3J 0L3. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at a memorial service held on Wednesday, March 1 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
