MONICA JEAN BUTLER It is with great sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Monica Jean Butler (Mum) at the Health Sciences Centre on February 19, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary; her husband Fred in 1983 and her sister Josie in 1999. Jean, as she was known by family and friends will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son Robert and wife Tanya of Vancouver; daughter Barbara and husband Steve; her two grandchildren, Samantha and Joshua and many family and friends. Born in Preston, England, Mum moved to Winnipeg in 1956 with husband Fred. She worked for Silpit Industries for 20 years before retiring in 1992. A true hockey mom, she was always happiest being involved in all of our school activities, the neighbourhood community centre and just being a part of our everyday lives. Everyone who knew Mum will remember her energetic and independent nature, her great sense of style, her great love of shopping, sewing, travelling, spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and she always enjoyed the company of our friends as much as her own. Always the devoted mother and grandmother, there wasnt anything that she wouldnt have done for her family, even going camping. We are so proud of you Mum, you never gave up the fight and knew when it was time to let go. We will treasure your life and honour your memory always. IM FREE Dont grieve for me, for now Im free; Im following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call; I closed my eyes and left it all. I could not stay another day; to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place on that special day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Ah yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow; I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My lifes been full, Ive savoured much; good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; dont lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now He set me free. Rest in Peace Mum - We Love You The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all the numerous staff at the Health Sciences Centre (especially those on GH6) and to the VON for the wonderful care and compassion given Mum. Special thanks also to numerous family and friends who offered their continuous prayers and support throughout this difficult time. In accordance with Mums wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to the Variety Childrens Heart Centre, Room FE241 - 685 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0Z2.
