Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNON LYLE DERRAUGH It is with deep heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend on Thursday, February 24, 2000 at Riverview Health Centre, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Vern was born on September 10, 1930 on the road to Kindersley in Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm, he later moved to Toronto where he met and married Carol Shumilak and had two sons Bruce and Verne. He returned to Winnipeg where he was active in the Union Movement. In his last 12 years of retirement, Vern enjoyed beekeeping with his sons, golf and was an avid ballroom dancer. His parents Herbert and Murial and his eldest brother Doug predeceased him. Vern will be forever loved and missed by his sons Bruce and Verne; daughter-in-law Sue; grandchildren Troy and Jayse; brothers Hue and Jerry (Jackie), sister Betty (John), special loved ones Carol, Pat, Mai-Lee, Fan and Yung, Union brothers and sisters, the Winnipeg Group, The Dance World and all the others that knew and loved him. Memorial service to be held at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 28 with Dr. Gary Kuntzgj officiating. Following the service, friends and family are invited to the Transcona Golf Club at 2120 Dugald Rd, to celebrate Verns life. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre and Victoria Oncology Dept. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
