EMILY HART (nee JOHNSON) December 9, 1915 - February 24, 2000 Peacefully, in her sleep, February 24th at the West Park Manor Nursing Home where she had resided for the past six years, Emily Hart, age 84, went home to be with her Lord. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald in May, 1991; two brothers, Johannes and Bergman; and three sisters, Laura, Aurora and Elin. Left to mourn her passing are her four children, Dennis (Elaine), grandsons Colin and Cameron of Calgary, Alberta; Valerie (Ray) of Oakville, Ontario; Lesley (Wes), grandsons Timothy and Hugh; Paul (Harriet) both of Winnipeg. She is survived by her eldest sister Freda Ramberg of Kenora, Ontario and younger sister Esther Roberts (Wes) of Seattle, Washington, also her only sister-in-law Dorothy Hart of Winnipeg. A first generation Icelandic Canadian, Emily grew up with her two brothers and five sisters in the Icelandic section of West End Winnipeg. As a girl she enjoyed many sports and played organized baseball with her sister Aurora. She was an accomplished elocutionist, winning recognition for her discourse in the Icelandic language. In her late teens she met her future husband Gerald at Calvary Temple. They married in January of 1938 and sailed to his ancestral home Jamaica where they would reside for two years. While rearing her four children, Emily devoted much of her time to her church, teaching Sunday school for many years. After her children had grown, she worked at Hulls Bookstore into her late sixties when she detected the early signs of Alzheimers disease. Her family will be ever grateful for the kind care and respect she received at West Park Manor. Special thanks to Alda Horrill for her faithful visits, and to Calvary Temples pastors William Michalski and Bruce Logan. Also to sister-in-law Dorothy Hart who played a strong supporting role in Emilys last years at home. Her wonderful neighbors are remembered for their many kindnesses as well as her special homecare worker Agnes Friesen and companions Sheri and Rita. Flowers gratefully declined. A donation to West Park Manors 2 South Alzheimer Wing or to the charity of ones choice would be graciously appreciated. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at Bardal Funeral Chapel, with Pastor H.H. Barber officiating. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord." "Full many a gem of purest ray serene, the dark unfathomd caves of ocean bear; Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, and waste its sweetness on the desert air." Elegy Written in A Country Churchyard Thomas Gray BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street 774-7474
