VIOLET B. (MORRISON) WRIGHT At Concordia Hospital on Saturday, February 26, 2000, Violet Beatrice (Morrison) Wright, aged 91 years, dearly beloved wife of Howard Wright, Anola, Man., passed peacefully back to her Maker. Violet was born June 26, 1908 at her familys home at Hazelridge, Man. She was the sixth child of nine children born to George and Elizabeth (Parks) Morrison. The Morrison family were very early pioneers of the Hazelridge area. Violet received her education at Hazelridge School. Growing up on a pioneer farm developed the many talents that carried her through her life. She went to work in Winnipeg at quite a young age. On a beautiful, sunny April 19, 1933 she married her dear husband Howard Wright in Winnipeg. They were to share over 66 years of married life. Their union was blessed with four children, Audrey, Ruth, George and Shirley. Violet and Howard started their life together on rented farms. It was a happy day when in the summer of 1938, they were able to buy their own farm in the Beatrice School District. She lived on their original yard site up until when she was hospitalized on January 24, 2000. Violet worked beside her husband to help break virgin soil and turn it into productive farmland. She was well acquainted with picking stones and burning brush. She was no stranger to hard work. Violets hands were always busy with working the fields, tending the livestock, raising chickens, preparing the winter food, she loved to pick berries. She baked hundreds of pounds of flour into bread, churned butter, sewed clothes and the biggest challenge of all, making wonderful meals with the simplest things. Each task was met with courage. She was very gifted in doing beautiful hand-embroidery and her generosity in sharing her work of art are greatly treasured by her family. She loved her grandchildren and occasionally baby-sat them. Her older grandchildren will remember with great fondness the special Christmas at Grandmas. Violet was a strong, capable woman who was feisty to the end. She left her family a great legacy. She was so blessed to see her childrens, childrens, children. She always tried to attend all family gatherings. In May of 1999 she attended her great-grandsons wedding. She was so disappointed that, due to her health, she couldnt attend her granddaughters 25th wedding anniversary in July. At the past Christmas, due to the inventiveness of her family, she was able to celebrate with the family. Violet had endured poor health for a number of years but was able to really enjoy the last two years of her life and was able to go shopping, visiting and do most of her own housework. She was able to be home for another several months after her August hospitalization with the wonderful care given by Howard and her daughter Shirley, aided by Home Care. Special thanks to Terry and Pat, the Home Care Nurses, Sharon (O.T.) Sandy and the other Home Care workers. Donna Sales is to be thanked also. The family wish to thank Dr. Macek and the caring staff at Concordia Hospital. Chaplain Friesen, thank you. The family will miss Violet dearly. Her memory will be forever cherished by her dear husband Howard; her children, Audrey (Lorne) Ballegeer, Ruth (Art) Burko, George (Lorraine) Wright and Shirley (Clifford) Thorgilsson; her 10 grandchildren, Joanne (Doug), Marilyn (Henry), David (Sharon), Richard (Shirley), Debbie (Ken), Kathy (Edwin), James, Karen (Pat), Gloria (Brent) and Kevin.
