Date of Passing: Feb 26, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILHELMA (MAY) PATERSON (nee de GROOT) Peacefully on February 26, 2000, May passed away at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 74 years. May will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years Jim; daughter Cindy Jones (Tim) of Winnipeg; son Michael of Victoria, B.C.; sisters, Elsy Bachert and Jo Symons of Winnipeg; and grandchildren, Scott and Matthew Jones. She was predeceased by her parents, Jansje and Jentje de Groot. May was born in Utrect, Holland in 1925. Along with her sister Jo, May came to Canada in 1951 where she later met and married Jim. She devoted much of her time to taking care of her family. May was a caring, giving and unselfish person, who went out of her way to not burden others during her own ups and downs along the road. Although quiet by nature, she could always be counted on for a kind word, no matter the situation. A special thank you to Dr. Roland Hayward and to the staff at Victoria General. Also special thanks to Mary Robertson and the VON staff who provided support to May at home during her illness. In keeping with Mays wishes, cremation will take place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
