DONALD ALASDAIR MACDONALD "THE D.A." It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Donald MacDonald at Victoria General Hospital on Monday, February 28, 2000. Don was born on July 27, 1924 to Finlay and Morag MacDonald. Don is survived by his wife, protector and friend of 47 years Betty MacDonald. The D.A. will also be missed by his children, Bob and daughter-in-law Linda and Aynsley and son-in-law Bill Carey. Boomer will be forever loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tara Simpson, Lindsay MacDonald, Taylor Carey, Mac Carey, Morgan Carey, Cody Simpson and Riley Simpson. He will also be missed by his sister Ina Birch and her son Don and wife Yasmin. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Bob Cruise and wife Grace (California), Ron Cruise and wife Evelyn (Winnipeg) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary and brother-in-law Al Birch. The D.A. lived all his life in Fort Rouge attending both Lord Roberts and Kelvin High in his school years. The Second World War brought an end to his schooling and he joined the Air Force. After the war the D.A. rejoined the CNR and worked there until his retirement in 1982. The D.A. loved going to Hawaii every year, mostly because of the dear friends he met there. He also took great joy in his backyard swimming pool and having his friends, special neighbours and family there to enjoy it with him. He also loved his trips to Poplar Bay in the Lake of the Woods where he spent many hours revelling in nature with his family. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 2, at Churchill United Church (formerly Rosedale United) at 525 Beresford Ave., with Rev. Russell Wardell officiating. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Royal Canadian Legion (Fort Rouge Branch No. 97) located at 426 Osborne Ave. We would like to thank all the staff at the Victoria General Hospital especially his special caregivers Ivy, Cathy and Maureen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dons memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
