EVA MILDRED MACKIE Having met her goal of greeting the new millennium, Mildred died on February 29, 2000. She enjoyed good health and lived independently, in her own home, until shortly after her 93rd birthday last December. Her life was filled with good deeds and a firm Christian faith. Both her mother, Eva and father Will, predeceased her, as did her beloved brother Philip. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Mackie and three nephews and their families: Cam, his wife Doris Mae Oulton, and sons Chris and Craig; Doug and children, Trish and David Petrie and their two children Jamie and April, Sue, Lisa and Eric Koshinsky, Dana and Derek; and Gordon, his wife Wendy, and sons Greg and Colin. To all of them she was a dear and well loved `centre of family activities and she will be deeply missed. She obtained a BA in 1928, then attended Normal school. She taught in Winnipeg, then Beausejour, returning to Winnipeg to attend business college. She thereafter entered the insurance business and joined Mackie Travel in 1937 where she remained for 42 years, working first with her father and brother and then with her nephew Doug, leaving in 1985, when the business was sold. From 1920 to 1988 she spent happy holidays at the family cottage in Husavick. Education and cottage holidays filled only part of her life. For 70 years she was an active member of St. Stephens Broadway United Church as a member of the United Church Women, the Worship Committee and church archivist. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, March 4 at Broadway Disciples United Church. Her grandnephews will act as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society, 5 Kent St. "My candles burning at both ends. It will not last the night. But, oh my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light".
