RONALD (RON) SORBY Peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, February 29 at age 66. He will be greatly missed by his caring wife Olga; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dave Rubel; daughter Sandra and special friend Garry; grandchildren, Jordan, Jesse and Julie Rubel; sister Eva Parashin; niece Linda and husband Rick Irvine and their children, Steve and Laura; mother-in-law Anna Iwanchysko and brother-in-law Dan and Lori Iwanchysko and their children, Judi (Peter) and Gary (Pam). He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Anna Sorby; sister Lilly and brother-in-law Bill Parashin. He also leaves behind many relatives and great friends and neighbours. Ron was born and raised in Winnipeg. As a young man he was very athletic, actively participating in hockey, football and other sports. His love for sports continued, as he became a loyal spectator at his grandchildrens soccer and hockey games. Ron was well known and respected in the car industry where he worked for over 30 years. In the late 1970s Ron owned and operated his own car dealership in Carman, Man. He was successful in his prime and enjoyed the camaraderie of his peers. Ron/Dad had a great sense of humour and always loved to tell a great joke or story. He loved the time spent with friends and family whether it was relaxing and fishing at the lake, snowmobiling at the floodway, golfing or just playing cards. He loved entertaining friends and family in his home and was always hospitable and generous. He was very unselfish and always provided the very best for his family. He instilled important family values and always put us first. He stressed the importance of a good education and was always there to coach our teams. He loved his grandchildren and never once came to visit without a special treat for them. He was truly "Santa" in more ways than one and will be lovingly remembered for being the terrific husband, dad and grandpa that he was. We wish to sincerely thank Dr. Russ Albak for his many years of exceptional care for Dad and to us as a family during Dads recent hospital stay. Wed like all of Dads friends to be considered "honorary pallbearers". In lieu of flowers, donations may gratefully be forwarded to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2000 at 8:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. A private family funeral service will follow on Friday, March 3. Ron will be laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 Main Street 338-7111
