FREDERICK HERBERT LINKLATER On March 2, 2000 at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Pop with all his family by his side passed away. Born April 29, 1923 in Winnipeg, he married Alice Emily Vincent on November 1, 1947. He is survived by his loving wife Alice; three daughters and one son, Allyson, Tim (Shalyn), Josh; great-grandchildren, Ziggy and Isabel; Tim (Anne), Emily (Josh), Paul, Jennifer; Leanne (Larry), Lisa (Marc), Rick (Crystal), Sarah - Michael, Justin; Laurel (Thomas), J.T., Kristen, Mallory; sisters and brother, Ruby (George), Lou, David (Joan), June (Bob) brother-in-law Gordon, sister-in-law Ida; his aunt Gwen Ingimundson. Predeceased by a son Rick; sister Vel, brother Jack; niece Alana and brother-in-law Howie. Pop enlisted for the war in Winnipeg in March, 1941 with the 17th Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He shipped over to England where he volunteered for duty with the British 6th Airborne Division. Pop made his combat jump into France with the Division and fought in their campaigns until the wars end. In 1948 Pop re-enlisted with the Canadian Army and taught parachutists at the airborne school in Rivers and Shilo. In 1954 Pop joined his permanent regiment, the illustrious Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry, 1st Battalion. The Linklaters became an army family enjoying all of the adventures and travel that military life offered. In 1968 Pop retired from the army and the family moved to Stony Mountain. Pop spent the rest of his career as a shop instructor at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary until his retirement in 1983. Pop fought his lifes last battle as he fought all of his battles; with courage, honour, and an irrepressible sense of humour. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 6 in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel Stonewall. Rev. J. Miles will officiate. Legion rites at the service with an honour guard from the Stony Mountain Penitentiary. Pallbearers will be Tim Linklater, Rick Law, Paul Linklater, Tom Linklater, Larry Linklater and Thomas Martyniw. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Stonewall and District Health Centre Foundation. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of the arrangements.
