HARRY (HERSHEL) LESZCZ Suddenly on Thursday, March 2, 2000, our dear Harry passed away. Harry was born on February 18, 1958 in Winnipeg and lived here all his life. Harry attended Talmud Torah, Joseph Wolinsky and West Kildonan Collegiate. Harry had an insatiable passion for sports which began when he was a teenager. He was an avid participant in bowling and golf and a fan of hockey and baseball. His knack for recalling statistics on every sport and player became integral later in his life, as he became involved in the world of horseracing. After graduating from the University of Winnipeg, Harry became one of the first independent video store owners in Winnipeg, with the opening of Cavalier Video in St. James. It was during this time he became involved in horseracing. He wrote a column for the Winnipeg Free Press and later the Winnipeg Sun known as "Harrys Hunches". In the early 1990s he changed careers and became a Jockey Agent here in Manitoba and Alberta. During the off season he worked at the Revenue Canada Taxation Centre. He was a kind, gentle soul who defined what it truly meant to be a son, brother, uncle and friend. Harry was loved by all and his passing has left an overwhelming void in all our lives. He is profoundly missed by his biggest supporters, his parents, Molly and Hy; sister Carol and her husband Rob Waldman and their children, Sari and Benjamin; grandfather Saul Leszcz; and uncles, aunts, cousins, lifelong friends and colleagues. Funeral services were held Friday, March 3. Pallbearers were his family and friends, Rob Waldman, Jacob Blumes, Moshe, Amitai, Jason and David Azuelos, Lewis Minuk, Max Polinsky, Grant Zipursky and Stephen Rosenfield. Donations may be made to the Harry Leszcz Memorial Fund (Holocaust Education), in care of Jewish Heritage Centre, C-116 Doncaster, Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B2, (204) 477-7460; or to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Harry was a great golfing buddy, bowling buddy and a dear friend. Back in the days when we worked at Eaton's Groceteria, a bunch of us shared many great times together. Harry was genuine and simply the nicest person you could ever ask for as a friend. Though we went different ways years ago, I'll never forget Harry and the great friendship that was ours. Rest in peace Harry, gone but never forgotten... - Posted by: Paul (Old Friend - back in Eaton days ) on: May 06, 2014
