ITALIA MACARIO Peacefully after a lengthy illness, Italia passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the age of 76 years. Italia was born in Scanno, Italy on September 29, 1923. At the age of thirty after enduring many years of hardship she immigrated with her husband and son to Winnipeg, arriving January 1953. Italia dedicated her entire life to being a loving mother, grandmother, friend, as well as a devoted member of Holy Rosary Church. Anyone who met her became her friend and once her friend, she would open up her hospitality and kitchen to them by preparing traditional meals . Her specialty being "mostaccioli" an Italian pastry. If there was a bargain to be found you could be sure mom was on the bus buying up everything for everybody in case somebody needed it. She spent many winters in her retirement in Arizona and her summers at their trailer at the Oasis Beach. She was predeceased by her husband Orazio in 1993, and her son Antonio in 1951, and her sister Iole. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted son Stan; her daughter-in-law Sonia and her beloved grandsons, Paul and Adam. Also left to mourn is her sister Lia in Italy and her brother-in-law Guerinno and wife Dora, and her sister-in-law Iolanda, as well as many nieces and nephews in Winnipeg and Italy. Viewing will be held on Monday, March 13, at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, at 10:00 a.m. also in the Church with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano Presiding at the Eucharist. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street. Out of respect to the season of Lent, flowers are declined and donations may be made in Italias memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Man., R3C OS6. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care and kindness.
