Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN FRANKLIN VIDALIN It is with deep heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father, Afi, Langafi, John Franklin Vidalin on Tuesday, March 7, 2000 in the comfort of his home. John was born on February 6, 1922 at the homestead Arskogi in Riverton, Man. He lived there until 1939, when he was drafted to the Second World War. He was stationed in Montreal and then Halifax, but thankfully the war ended before he went overseas. Upon returning from Halifax, John met Oskie Jonasson while fishing on Lake Winnipeg. In 1948 they married and together they shared their life in Riverton and raised four beautiful children. Johnnie farmed for a number of years, and then worked as a fisherman on Lake Winnipeg and Great Slave Lake. Johnnie then worked for Steini Erickson of Erickson Construction, who was also a dear friend, until his retirement in 1987. After retiring, John loved to spend time outside, working in the garden, watching for birds and playing with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed driving out to Sandy Bar to fish and spent many afternoons shooting pool with friends at the Riverton Icelandic Lodge. Afi was a loving, generous and kind man. He had a special twinkle in his eye, and a gentle demeanour that was loved by all. He had a special way with children and could always make them laugh and smile. Afi will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren, who love him dearly. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Oskie of 51 years and his four children, Pat (Dori), David (Patti), Darlene and Heather (Greg). Afi John will be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Rob), Heidi, Elisha, Sarah, Sterling, Cory, Troy, Shaylee, Aubrey, Jordan and his first great-grandchild Kolten. He is also survived by his sisters, Lauga, Rae and Joey; his brother David (Suzanne) and his mother-in-law Daisy. He will be met in heaven by his parents, Paul and Rikka; brothers, Fred, Larus, Paul and sister Pat. A special thank you to the Riverton Ambulance, Gimli Hospital nursing staff and especially Dr. S.V. Patel for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church, Riverton, Man. with student Pastor Susan Horton presiding. Interment to follow at the Riverton Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6 or the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church. Godda nott elsku pabbi minn. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
