JOHN SOKOLOWSKI It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Sokolowski at his residence on March 8, 2000. John leaves to mourn his beloved wife Isabel and his five children, Joanne (Bob) Baccus, Barbara, Rick (Cathy), Donna Scharikow, and Brian; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Grant, Kristin (Darryl), Karen, Carly, Mary, and Natalie. John is also survived by his three brothers, Bill (Jean) of Selkirk, MB, Steve of Ottawa, ON, and Walter (Vicki) of Winnipeg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mel and Ann Davey; and sister-in-law Elsie Simmons, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was born in Winnipeg on April 2, 1915, and was raised in Sidney and Rosser, MB before his family relocated to Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, he met and married his wife Isabel on November 25, 1939. Together they raised their children, and together last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage. John was employed by Carling Brewery Limited for 33 years until his retirement in 1977. John enjoyed many happy times camping in the Whiteshell with family and friends. Family gatherings were the highlights of Dads life, and he was always at his best when surrounded by family and friends. He loved playing hockey in his younger years, a sport that would find him tuning in for countless hours on his favourite program, "Hockey Night in Canada". John was also considered quite the "handyman", who loved tinkering with cars, appliances and anything else that friends and family would choose to bring for repair and advice. John will be sadly missed by those he leaves behind, but he will remain forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make donations in Johns memory to the Salvation Army. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements; 586-8044.
