HOWARD JOHN JENKINS It is with sadness that we announce the death of Howard John Jenkins on March 7, 2000 in the St. Boniface General Hospital. Howard was predeceased by his loving wife Hilda in January of 1996; his father Guy Jenkins in 1973; mother Annie Jenkins in 1982 and sister-in-law Joanne Jenkins in March of 1999. He is survived by his son Dennis of Winnipeg; sister Frances Moynagh and her husband Stan of Winnipeg; brother Ralph of Dryden, ON; and many nieces and nephews both in Canada and the United States. Howard was born on May 10, 1921 in Belmont, MB. He served in the R.C.N.V.R. during the Second World War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Bowsman, where he and his father ran the general store, which was sold in 1951. Howard met Hilda Hinchliffe in Bowsman and married her in November of 1945. After the store was sold, he and Hilda ran the local post office. He was an active member of the Bowsman Legion and Bowsman Jubilee Masonic Lodge, transferring to Price Arthur Lodge in Swan River. Howard received his fifty-year pins from the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Royal Canadian Legion in 1998. He was also an ardent curler in Bowsman and helped found the Munroe Cup Curling Championship for seniors in the Swan River Valley. Howard and Hilda retired to Winnipeg in 1990 and took up residence in the Kiwanis Chateau, enjoying their social contacts there. While in Winnipeg, he became a member of the White Ensign Naval Club of Winnipeg. According to Howards wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a funeral service held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 13, in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Bailey officiating. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude, to the doctors, nurses and staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Dialysis Unit, for their professional and caring service to Howard during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital, Kidney Dialysis Unit, or to a charity of choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
