EMILIE NEUSTAEDTER Emilie (Schaubert) Neustaedter died on March 11, 2000 in Abbotsford, B.C. Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was born on January 14, 1905 in Ukraine. The First World War disrupted her childhood. In 1926 she married Kornelius Neustaedter and began raising a family. Political unrest interfered with normal life once again. She fled with her children to Germany during the Second World War. After being reunited with her husband, the family moved to Paraguay in 1948. The years there for her were difficult ones. The family was glad to arrive in Canada in 1957. As long as her health allowed, our mother kept up an active interest in world affairs. Books were her passion. She was also a talented seamstress, spending enjoyable time making things and searching for just the right fabric and accessories. Mother stayed in Manitoba until 1991, when she moved to B.C. to join some of her children. Our mother was predeceased by her parents; four sisters; one brother; one daughter at age two; one daughter-in-law and her husband. Left to remember her are her children, Agnes (Kornie) Bergen, Kornelius Neustaedter, Else (Alwin) Braun, Woldemar (Anyta) Neustaedter, Henry (Hilde) Neustaedter, Kathy (Peter) Peters; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister and one sister-in-law. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay St., with viewing prior to the service. Interment following in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL CHAPEL 338-0331
