KATHERINE DOERKSEN (nee REMPEL) Peacefully but unexpectedly, after 91 years, Katherine Doerksen of West Park Manor passed away at the Grace General Hospital on March 13, 2000. Katherine (Tina) was born on July 26, 1908 in a small village in northern Russia. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1924, and settled in Grunthal. Katherine married Gerhard Doerksen in 1942 and moved to a farm in Oak Bluff. They raised two sons and farmed there until they retired and moved to Winnipeg in 1977. Katherine was predeceased by her husband Gerhard; her sister Anna; and her three brothers, Jacob, Henry and John. She leaves to mourn her two sons, Ernie (friend Ingrid) and Ron (Maud) and their two sons, Bryon and Kevin; as well as sister-in-law Val Rempel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., on Wednesday, March 15 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Springstein Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
