SANDRA DEAGLE (nee SPICER) It is with heavy hearts that we, her sons, announce the passing of Sandra Elizabeth Mary Deagle, beloved mother, sister and friend, on March 12, 2000 at the age of 51 years, following a two year battle with cancer. The youngest of five children, Sandra was born to Mary and Cecil Spicer, November 9, 1948 at McKeller Hospital in Fort William, Ontario. As a young girl she attended the Drew Street Primary School as well as Selkirk Collegiate Secondary School, at some time during which Im told friends called her "Giggles". Shortly thereafter she met Thomas Blake Deagle. They were wed at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on October 31st, 1964 and the next year saw the birth of their first son Joseph. Jeffrey, their second son, was born five years later in 1970. Following a divorce in 1974, Sandra moved herself and her two boys to Winnipeg to build a new life. She attended Red River College, and finishing with a diploma of applied arts and creative communications began a diverse body of work filled with an artistic spirit. Whether it was graphic design or writing, mother gave to her employers and community what she called added value in everything she did. Her focus always upon the well being of her sons, something for which we are ever so grateful. A lover of people and music, mothers was a friendly and familiar face at the Winnipeg Folk Festival for 12 years, always willing to lend a hand or personal touch wherever she could. Mother is predeceased by her parents, father-in-law Joseph A. Deagle; brother-in-law Edward Sovereign; sister Beatrice, and her husband Harry McElwain. She leaves to cherish her memory myself and my brother Jeffrey; sister Dorothy Sovereign; two brothers, Kenneth Kurish (Rosemary) and Sheridan Spicer, along with these are numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Sandra was a person of courage and fortitude who truly touched many a life with her kindness and energy, she will be sorely missed.
