GEORGE ALEXANDER LOW George Low, aged 88 years, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on March 13, 2000. Dad is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; his children Janice (Murray) Hovey, Sandy (Dorann), Rob (Marg) and Donna (Dave) Carter and his grandchildren, Ken, Trevor, Carolyn (Neil), Kimberley, Tracy, Ryan, Matthew, Erla, Michael and Terri. Dad is also survived by his brother Roy (Elsie) and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Mary Low and his five sisters and a brother. Dad was born on Scotia St. in Winnipeg on June 19, 1911 then moved to the family homestead in Spearhill, MB at a young age. He homesteaded and worked in the quarry at Spearhill before joining the army in 1939. He retired from RCEME in 1963 then worked at the Manitoba Hydro until his retirement in 1976. Dad and Mom spent their retirement years travelling the world on their own and with the Hydro X Club and enjoying his passion of gardening and his many get togethers with family. Special thanks to Home Care, especially nurses Arlene and Nancy for enabling Dad to remain at home for as long as possible. At Dads request his body was donated to the U of M for medical research and learning purposes. A private gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 16. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
