GEORGE WALPOLE HARVEY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, George Walpole Harvey on March 13, 2000, at Victoria General Hospital. He will forever be loved and missed by his wife of over 56 years, Patricia; daughters, Margaret (George) Wollner and Rae (Edward) Patts; grandchildren, Christine (Ken) Malanchuk, Chris (Melinda) Patts, Tricia Lewis and Erin Patts; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Adam Malanchuk. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Frank. George had a long and distinguished career with the Canadian Post Office. His parents ran a country post office in Truax, Sask. where his interest began. He was a railway mail clerk in Moose Jaw, Sask. He served with the Postal Corp in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. Upon his return from the war he worked for the Post Office, eventually retiring as Operations Manager, Manitoba District. He was well liked and respected both by management and those employees who worked under him. He maintained an active interest in the Post Office after his retirement, belonging to the Heritage Club of Canada Post and appearing on a television program on the history of the Railway Mail Clerk. His other interest was gardening, which was a lifelong hobby. He would wait for his new seed catalogues and start planning. He had a wonderful garden and yard. Georges love and devotion to his wife was shown in his daily visits to the nursing home where she resides, often bringing her treats and roses. He did this until his health prevented him from doing so. During his final stay in hospital following his stroke, his great-grandchildren, Jessica and Adam were his greatest pleasure. He could always make them smile, and they in turn brought joy to him. Prayers will be said on Thursday, March 16 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Rev. Dr. Patrick A. Morand presiding. Entombment will follow at Assumption Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, in Georges memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C OS6.
