KATHLEEN MAY SHEPHERD (nee STEPHENS) Kay died peacefully after a short illness on March 6, 2000 at the Glengarry Hospital in Victoria. On January 14, 2000, Kay celebrated her 100th birthday with her brother Jack Stephens and various friends and relatives from Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. Kay was a prairie girl at heart although she spent most of her last 50 years in Victoria. She was born in Pipestone, MB. Before moving to Winnipeg she lived in a number of small towns in Southwestern Manitoba with her parents, John and Rosa Stephens; her brothers, Jack, Don and Gordon, and her sister Mildred. Kay had a very exciting life. She worked as a teacher, social worker, secretary and case worker for the C.N.I.B. She loved skating and played hockey. She worked in New York and crossed the Atlantic on one of the first passages of the magnificent Queen Mary. Kay and Shep had no children. They happily retired to Victoria in the early 1950s. Kay was a very active member of the Centennial United Church in Victoria until she became frail. Kay enjoyed the love and affection of numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Kay is survived by her beloved brother Jack of Victoria, who faithfully visited her on a weekly basis until the end. Kay was also very fortunate to have Lois McGill of Victoria, as a loyal friend who looked in on her for many years. She received excellent care from the staff at Glengarry Hospital. Kay specifically requested no services or flowers. Her ashes will be interred next to her dear Shep at the Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria.
