She will be sadly missed by her husband of 52 years, Axel, daughter Ethel (Jim), son Chris (Barbara) grandchildren Jennifer (Dave), Melissa, Kyle (Michelle), Andrea, Ian, and great-grandson Matthew. She will also be missed by her brother John (Raye), special "adopted" daughter Joy (Gary) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Christina Cowie, and her sister Ethel. Betty was born on March 12, 1923 in Peterhead, Scotland. She met her husband Axel in Scotland during the Second World War, and in 1947 she came to Canada. On July 5, 1947, she married Axel and settled in Selkirk, where they raised their family. In addition to being a full-time wife and mother, Betty was an active volunteer with the Association for Community Living. She loved dancing, talking with people from all walks of life, and never forgot any special dates or occasions. After Axel suffered a stroke in January, 1979, Betty dedicated herself to his care for the next 18 years until he moved into Red River Place Nursing Home.
