ELSIE PEKRUL (nee Daunheimer) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother at the age of 78 years old on March 11, 2000. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ray and wife Lynda Kushnir Pekrul; grandchildren, Raena and Christopher of Regina; and by her daughter Sharon and husband Ken Moore of Winnipeg. Also her sisters, Christine Robinson of Toronto and Evelyn and husband Harvey Huffman of Vancouver. Numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends will also remember her. Her husband George (1982) and her parents, Louis and Mary Daunheimer predeceased her. Elsie was born September 28, 1921 near Neudorf, Saskatchewan. As a single woman, she worked in Winnipeg in the early l940s and became the first female shop steward at Burns Meats. Married in l945, she and her husband George farmed the family homestead near Melville, Saskatchewan until they moved to Winnipeg in l965. Since l975 to present day, Elsie worked for Hartford Heating and her good friend John Van Bruggen. Throughout her life she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother taking great pride in everyones accomplishments while providing him or her with support and guidance. She generously opened her home to family and friends who could count on a delicious home cooked meal and her famous "butter tarts". Elsie especially enjoyed her cottage at Matlock Beach on Lake Winnipeg and her summer life of entertaining friends and family, playing Bingo and card games. Recently she moved to Bethelstadur apartments where she enjoyed making new friends through her many social activities. Elsie was also an active member of the West End Seniors Centre and worshipped at The Lutheran Church of the Cross.
