LYDIA HOFFMAN Peacefully, on Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Lydia Hoffman, aged 81 years. Lydia was born in Grahamdale, Man. on December 11, 1918 to Samuel and Julianna Werner. She grew up with a family of eight brothers and sisters and is survived by one sister Mathilda Hagglund. In 1941 she married Edward Hoffman and has resided in Selkirk since then. Her beloved husband Ed predeceased her on December 10, 1979. Her working career involved employment at the Fisheries and Canada Safeway. After 21 years she retired in 1979 as a cook at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. Left to cherish the memories are daughter Marlene (Murray) Schneider and their children, Tracy (Aaron) Sivertson and Lynley of Lockport, Man.; daughter Edelean (Willie) Cole and their children, Shelley (Quinn) Fay, Scott and Melissa of Regina, Sask.; as well as several nieces and nephews. In her retirement years her great joys in life were her grandchildren, family, friends and church. She took great pride in her home, her flowers and her garden. She loved to prepare meals for family gatherings as well as enjoying visitors. She also was known for her good sense of humour. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with viewing one half hour prior to service. Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Interment to follow in the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Howard Schwartz, Edward Schwartz, Edward Wiese, Wayne Locken, Dennis Linklater and Gary Wenzel. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren. Thanks to her special friend Vivian Hlady for the support and kindness shown to her, the Selkirk Home Care workers, Shirley and Susan and a special thanks to Dr. Ryckman and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to mom. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Lydias memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Memorial Fund of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Selkirk. Those we love dont go away They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near Always loved, always missed and very dear. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
